The Oakbrook Golf Club is the center of the Oakbrook neighborhood. This 18 hole golf course is one of Washington’s finest public golf courses and is surrounded by hundreds of oak trees. This classic course is accessible for players of all skill levels and a sure treat for anyone who appreciates firm, smooth, and fast greens. You don’t have to be a member to use this course, but there are perks if you join – like unlimited golf, 25%-50% off other golf courses, and discounts off of dining and spas. Don’t miss out on upcoming events like the KJR Masters Tournament and the 2018 Golf Event Series.

Not into golfing? Don’t worry – the Oakhouse Restaurant & Bar is in walking distance! Happy hour just got a little happier! Tuesday through Saturday 3:00pm to 6:00pm and all day Sunday they have $7 martinis, $4 wells, $4 house wines, $2.50 beer specials, and more. They also serve up a delicious brunch on Sunday’s from 10am to 2pm.

Another close feature in the community is the Oakbrook Swim and Tennis Club – which has been around for over 60 years! They have a main pool that has a diving board and is 4 feet deep at the shallow end and is supervised by certified lifeguards. There’s a wading pool is completely separate from the main pool and is dedicated to members 5 years of age and younger and a large covered cabana as well as tons of covered tables and chairs. They also offer family fun events like kids movie nights, adult nights and annual bike parade. It’s also a great spot to hold parties too.

Less than two miles away is Fort Steilacoom Park – 340 acres and is the largest park in Lakewood. It provides a diverse mix of active and passive recreation, features an expansive trail system, baseball, softball and soccer fields, state-of-the-art playground, off-leash dog park two picnic shelters and year round restrooms. They also have a few facilities available for reservations. One of the facilities accommodates 100 people, has electricity, water, two barbecues and is located near the playground and sports fields. There are also several smaller shelters available for rent too.

Adjacent to the park is the quiet and peaceful Waughop Lake – recently updated paved trails, great for walking or running. There are lots of benches around the lake so you can sit and enjoy the scenery and watch for the many wildlife that call this their home, like fish, ducks, geese, turtles, rabbits and occasional deer. There’s a Labyrinth near the start of the trail as well as a historical path where you can find interesting historical facts. The lake also has dedicated areas for sports fields, a playground, radio-controlled aircraft area for hobbyists and an off-leash dog park.

The AG Hudtloff Middle School was been recently replaced with a new, approximately 99,000 square foot building. The design of the new school created “houses” for each grade level, which help to develop strong grade level teams among teachers and students. The school design enhanced opportunities for collaboration in developing student projects and curriculum delivery. Ultimately, this fosters a stronger sense of community, minimize hallway time and maximize instructional time. The athletic fields and frontage roads were improved as well. This school also has a well maintained track & field, three tennis courts and outdoor basketball hoops.
