Gig Harbor
Originally named in 1841, Gig Harbor remains tied to its roots as a fishing village with a coveted small town lifestyle. You’ll find visitors and locals alike strolling downtown along the picturesque waterfront, or tying up to the dock at the Tides Tavern. While there are some older homes in Gig Harbor most of the housing stock was built after the city was incorporated in 1946. Many people move to the area seeking larger lot sizes and the highly rated Peninsula School District. The addition of a second Narrows Bridge in 2007 opened Gig Harbor up to more people and a period of significant growth, bolstering the Gig Harbor North and Uptown retail projects. Other firsts in recent years include a hospital (St. Anthony’s), Costco, YMCA, Sehmel Park & fields, and a museum highlighting the city’s maritime history.
