Snacks for Schools: Lyon Elementary

May 16, 2017
by Anne Jones

A little over a week ago we delivered snacks to Lyon Elementary, which is located at 101 E 46th St, Tacoma, WA 98404 (head West on 46th from Pacific Ave). The current building was constructed in 1924, and is scheduled for replacement this Summer!  Principal Anita Roth, gave me a tour of their existing building, and told me a little bit about her students and what makes Lyon special. They are a diverse student body, and I loved the analogy Roth shared about different notes making beautiful music. It was evident in our short visit how much she loves serving this school.

The new, re-imagined Mary Lyon Elementary School was designed with lots of student input and will feature a Puget Sound theme, which will immerse the students (and their families!) in the language of our region. Construction starts this Summer and the building will welcome students back for the 2018-2019 school year. Lyon currently hosts the district’s autism program, and the new building will have lots of dedicated spaces designed to meeting the needs of these students.

Your generosity allowed us to supply Lyon with snacks & water for their SBAC testing!  Many thanks to Laura Triplett and Toni Fuqua for opening your home to this cause, and to everyone who donated for your incredible generosity.
